The thing that bugs me is when people act like Loki is evil. He was never evil.

Imagine growing up, always being overlooked and treated as second rate. Then one day you realize that the person you were always just trying to be equal to wasn’t ready for the responsibility he was being given. You realize that he is going to endanger everyone and you know you have to show your “father” this.

So he allowed a few frost giants into Asgard in order to disrupt Thor’s big day because he knew Thor wasn’t ready.

Then he learns that he is  a Frost Giant. That is like if you were told you’re the Boogeyman. You are the thing that mothers hide their children from at night. You were raised to fear yourself.

And your sibling that you love, has sworn to kill all creatures like you.

And when you confront your “father” you realize that he only took you for what he believed to be the greater good. And you just want to prove yourself to be your sibling’s equal even more because you want to prove that you are worthy.

You want to prove you’re not a monster.

And so Loki slowly loses his sanity. He is battling this new revelation along with still fighting to be Thor’s equal. He never wanted to be king. He just wanted Odin to see him as equal to Thor.

And then, when he finally looked Odin in the eye that last time after killing off the Frost Giant that wished to kill Odin, Odin tells him no. That he couldn’t have done it.

And so he cracked.
